Encoding characters for the SMS API

Which characters can be sent in a text message?

Voodoo SMS code wrappers support the standard GSM character set. To keep things simple, our API expects UTF-8, we handle the encoding for the mobile networks.

How many characters can you send?

A single text message can contain 160 standard GSM characters. If you send more than 160 characters we'll concatenate multiple messages together so they appear as one. Concatenated messages are multiples of 153 characters. As your message increases in size, we'll send multiple parts and bill accordingly. The maximum of 918 characters means you'll be billed for 6 messages

There's a few GSM characters to watch out for, they're counted as 2 characters.
